Domestic Plumbing & Heating Installer
- City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma (6035) in Plumbing Studies
- BPEC 1999 Water Regulations
- BPEC NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating
Professional Plumber
- City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma (6035) in Plumbing Studies
- Part P Defined Scope Electrical Qualification
- BPEC Domestic Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems Certificate
- City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating
Please note that all examinations and assessments are conducted by an accredited external organisation and all BPEC qualifications are delivered through BPEC approved training centres. When qualified, you will work as a fully qualified plumber running your own business or working for a firm. This entails a list of highly requested skills such as (but not limited to):
- Installing or maintaining heating systems
- Repairing sanitation systems
- Fitting domestic appliances (such as dishwashers)
- Installing air-conditioning units
- Fitting bathrooms
- Emergency repairs
Plumbing Salary To Expect
With your new plumbing experience and enthusiasm to get into the world with your new profession, you’re probably wondering what kind of pay you can be expecting. The average salary for a Plumber is £15.85 net per hour (£32,000 gross per year), which is £2,400 (+8%) higher than the UK’s national average salary. A Plumber can expect an average starting pay of £7. The highest pay rates can exceed £29.80.
A Plumber with less than three years of experience can usually expect to earn an average total earning of about £7 per hour. A mid career Plumber with between 4 and 9 years of experience earns an average of £13.20 per hour, while a senior Plumber with 10-20 years of experience makes on average £21.70 per hour. Plumbers with more than 20 years of experience can expect to earn £25.30 per hour on average.
As you can see, like most trades, the work experience of a plumber heavily dictates how much they can expect to be earning. With the average pay being £15.85 an hour a mid-career earns about 17% less and a no experience/new plumber can expect 56% less than the average. When you get more towards a senior plumber you earn 37% more than the average and with a late career plumber you can upwards of 60+ more than the average plumber. These numbers can differ depending on location, for example, Sheffield (£17.58 per hour) plumbers are scarce in comparison to Nottingham (£16.66 per hour) meaning the value goes up. So it’s always worth checking around your local area to see what plumbers are being paid and how much you can expect to charge if you are self-employed.
